February 2009 Archives

This is not an event you will see on pay per view. This winter has been unusually cold for our area and although we haven't had a big snowstorm -yet we have had a bunch of smaller ones that were enough to send out the plows. For properties without curbs or edging to protect their landscape the snowplows and their operators can drift off their target and accidently damage turf and shrubs destroying everything in their path. If their happens to be a sprinkler system on this site then there is a pretty good chance that some sprinkler heads and their piping will be damaged. Short of installing curbing or block for protection I have found that using swing joints manufactured by Hunter or Rainbird allow sprinkler heads to get knocked around without being destroyed. Swing joints allow for flexibility and movement that does not exist when directly connecting sprinkler heads to the piping below. Installing swing joints in areas that are high traffic will save on costly repairs during the spring start up and throughout the summer season.
